"The brave, although unfortunate commandant of Fort Griswold...knew the value of his post which he was determined to maintain; and I have uniformly understood, that he fell fighting for its preservation..."-Capt. George Beckwith on the death of Lt. Col. William Ledyard
Except from the previously unknown memoirs of Capt. Beckwith on his remembrances of the fighting at Fort Griswold. A small sample of what was discovered while researching and writing my upcoming book. It will be the first time many people will actually hear the British side of the story. Then they can judge for themselves on what happened that fateful September day.
